Afghan Women Forced to Return : Here's How You Can Help

Since late 2023, more than 5.4 million Afghans have returned or been forced to return from Iran and Pakistan, one of the largest displacement crises in recent history. About 60% are women and children, many arriving with nothing after years spent abroad.

For these women, returning home does not mean safety. It means returning to a country where economic opportunities for women have almost entirely disappeared. At Artijaan, we believe craft can change that.

We welcome returning women into one of our workshops or partner small businesses, where they train alongside other women for one month, learning embroidery or tailoring while earning a fair wage. They leave with a marketable skill and a community of fellow makers.
